About Phenolic Phenom

The Game of Mah Jongg: a chinese game played with 144 or 152 small chinese "dominoes" similar to the game of rummy, but with many intricate rules. Gained popularity with Jewish women in the 1900s and still survives today as a very popular past-time. Played primarily on the Coasts but gaining momentum even in the Midwest!

Bakelite, the collector's plastic: Bakelite is a Phenolic thermoset plastic (meaning it can't be re-melted once it is set) that has been around since the late 1800s and gained popularity in the 20s-40s when Depression and the World War hit as it was cheap to make and very pretty to look at. It ceased to be produced after the early 50s and has become a very hot collector's item since then. With names like Butterscotch, Applejuice, Cream Corn, Cherry Juice, and Avacado, Bakelite conjurs up a whole smorgasbord of delights!

Phenolic Phenom: A company devoted to the design and manufacturing of wonderful Bakelite Jewelry on Ebay and through this website. We use American, Chinese, and French Bakelite to make a wide variety of jewelry items, specializing in Mah Jongg and Dice bracelets primarily.
